tanning
Instructions
Please read our before and aftercare procedures. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!
-
Before your appointment, be sure to exfoliate and remove unwanted hair.(consider our Full Body Hair Removal Services as an alternative to shaving, 48-72 hours prior)
Come with clean fresh skin and dry hair, but do not use moisturizing soaps, scrubs, or oils at least 24 hours before your appointment. We do NOT recommend that you use Dove or like products or bar soap, as these will alter your skin’s PH level and leave a residue that will affect the outcome of your tan. Do NOT apply any in-shower moisturizers, lotion, perfume, deodorant, or makeup before your appointment. Yes — you read that correctly, NO deodorant after showering, prior to tanning.
We highly recommend using nylon exfoliating gloves in the shower, 2 days (24-48 hours) before your appointment. If you like to use scrubs in the shower, we still recommend using an exfoliating glove after. Scrubs can leave oil behind (usually good for hydrating your skin but it can affect your tan). If you are using a scrub, it’s recommended to use it at least 48 hours prior to your tanning appointment.
Avoid saunas, high-intensity activity, extreme sweating, or heat immediately prior to (and after) your tanning appointment.
Timing and your Appointment
Waxing: 48-72 hours prior
Any Hair Removal Creams: 48-72 hours prior
Laser Hair Sessions: 24 hours prior
Manicures and Pedicures: 24 hour hours prior
Please advise us if you have had any recent:
Waxing, Chemical peels, facials, Nail appointments, or any other exfoliating skin services.
Waxing irritations, Sunburns, and other damage to the skin can cause uneven tans and peeling, tanning sunburnt skin is done at your own risk, we cannot guarantee an even tan.
-
Shower with warm water only (no soap). If this is not possible, gently exfoliate with your nylon glove after using soap to remove any residue.
Shower 8-12 hours prior to your appointment. (Pores will have the time to close) If you shower too soon before your appointment, the water hydrates your skin and the tanning spray cannot be absorbed.
Getting Ready for Your Appointment
Remove all jewelry
Arrive with no makeup, lotion, or deodorant
Wear loose fitting dark clothing and flip flops (or loose slip on shoes in the winter. Avoid bras or strappy clothing if possible. A black maxi dress is a perfect option!
Bring a hair tie or clip with you.
You can wear an old bathing suit or undergarments, based on your comfort. We will also have disposable thongs available.
If it is raining or snowing, please bring a long sleeve coat, long pants, closed toed shoes, raincoat, and/or umbrella so your skin can be fully covered after tanning.
-
Showering
1-8 hours based on the service provider’s suggested time to rinse. Until then avoid:
Showering and bathing, washing your hands, dishes, swimming, moisturizing, or any activities that could get your skin wet.
Avoid exercising or perspiring.
If you feel warm, sit in front of a fan to avoid perspiration when possible.
Sleeping
Wait 1 hour to lay down. If you’re going to bed right after your appointment, wear long and loose fitting clothing. Ensure no skin-to-skin contact, don’t rest your hands on your skin.
Set an alarm for the suggested rinse time. We are not liable for overdeveloped tans.
First Shower (after recommended development time)
Use only water for the first shower.
The solution will continue to develop over a 24 hour period. Do not use soap.
The bronzer will wash away in the shower, there is no color post-rinse. The tan will take 8-24 hours to develop, so if there is no color, don’t panic.
Use only your hands to gently rub bronzer off your skin so all of the solution rinses off evenly. Make sure all the solution is rinsed off or it could result in streaks from the water running down your body. Let the water run over you until it's mostly clear.
Not following that could result in streaks from the water running down your body.
Avoid After Appointment (for at least 72 hours post appointment)
Nail appointments, Hair removal, Chemical peels, facials, or any other exfoliating skin services.
Treatments like this will cause the tan to fade. We are not liable for faded tans due to this.
-
Bathing
Pat dry after all showers and baths rather than rubbing your skin dry.
Avoid exfoliating or waxing skin.
Use a moisturizing soap or body wash when showering.
Avoid washes with high fragrance and alcohol content.
Avoid using Dove bar soaps and like products.
Avoid long hot showers and baths.
Be sure not to do use any abrasive scrubbing materials and soaps. If you have rough skin areas, lightly spot treat with a washcloth and make sure to moisturize those areas after showering.
Use new razors if shaving.
Saltwater and chlorine can make tans fade faster. Avoid pools and hot tubs.
If you have hard water, adding a filter may help as well.
After Bathing
Apply moisturizer twice a day (Avoid using a moisturizer with mineral oil, citrus, alcohol, or scent).
Coconut and Aloe Based lotions are a great way to keep the skin moisturized without causing pre-mature fading
You can also use gradual tan tinted moisturizer as your tan begins to fade to help blend.
